The Health Benefits of Castor Oil
Many oils are being described as miracle oils, and castor oil is one of them. Here is all the tea about the infamous oil. Let's go!
What is Castor Oil, and what is it obtained from?
Castor oil is extracted from the seeds of the Ricinus plant. By pressing these seeds, the famous oil is obtained, which is then purified. The purified oil in the final product is transparent and thick in consistency.
Characteristics
Castor oil is primarily known for its ricinoleic acid present in it. This acid is rare and is found mainly increased in the castor plant. The acid is anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and promotes blood circulation. Castor oil is also toxic (in its natural state) because of the ricin it contains. Since this is usually removed from the oil, it can be used externally and internally.
Hair growth
It is often claimed that Castor Oil increases the hair growth. While there is no scientific evidence, the oil has many properties that your hair can benefit from. Since Castor oil is very thick, it is recommended to use this oil with a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut oil. Despite no scientific evidence, there are a lot of people on social media claiming it is good for hair growth- this can be because of the vitamins that nourish the hair roots.
Moisturizer
Castor oil is known for being able to deeply penetrate the skin. The high amount of vitamin E can moisturize the skin and prevent wrinkles.
Constipation
People who struggle with regular constipation can take castor oil. The oil is known to quickly relieve constipation and encourage bowel movements. For adults, a half to whole tablespoon on an empty stomach is sufficient here. For chronic constipation, medical consultation is essential. Caution is advised, if other medications are being taken, as the oil has a strong laxative effect.
Belly button
Recently, there have been a lot of people applying castor oil on the belly button. Castor Oil on the belly button can help with menstrual cramps, pain and with constipation. So, castor oil is definitely worth a try!
