your essential oil guide

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are obtained through steam distillation. Herbs or different plants are used for this purpose. What remains are the extracted properties of the plant with their corresponding scent.

What are the different oils?

Each oil has different characteristics. Here are the most popular oils:

Lavender Oil: Lavender Oil has Linalool and Linalyl acetate in it, which have a positive influence on our sleep quality and psyche. The oil is often used for relaxation.

Orange oil: Due to the citrus-like smell, the oil has an invigorating and mood-enhancing effect. That is why this oil is often used in aromatherapy to improve general well-being.

Lemon: Lemon oil also has similar properties and can help improve energy levels.

Peppermint: Peppermint oil is known for its fresh and activating nature. It is often used to help focus and can even help relieve headaches. In addition, it can be also used for digestive problems.

Tea tree oil is often used in cosmetics. Typical for the oil is revitalizing scent. Tea tree oil is antiseptic and can be used for acne or insect bites.

How can essential oils be used?

Cosmetical and medical purposes: With a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil, essential oils can be used for massages, skincare, or for relaxation of muscular tension.

Inhalation: Especially in winter, many people struggle with blocked airways or a stuffy nose. Here, a steam bath can consist of a bowl of hot (not boiling!) water and an oil of your choice can help to clear the respiratory tract. Eucalyptus or peppermint oil are particularly suitable for this.

Are all essential oils the same?

Not all oils are the same. While some oils can only be used for cleaning, washing or for the smell, there are some that can be used for medical purposes like massages or even for mouthwashes. Usually, the manufacturer makes a comment on how the oil can be used. It is often advised not to use essential oils for pregnant people or babys.
